The Future of Youth Ministry: A Pre-Event at APCE 2022

What is the future of youth ministry, and how can we all be prepared for it? That will be the guiding question as we spend time in conversation with Andrew Root and with fellow participants as we discover, listen to, and support one another in what God is calling youth ministry to be and to do.

Dr. Andrew Root is the Carrie Olson Baalson Professor of Youth and Family Ministry at Luther Seminary, St. Paul, Minnesota. He writes and researches in areas of theology, ministry, culture, and younger generations. His most recent books are The Congregation in a Secular Age (Baker, 2021), The End of Youth Ministry? (Baker, 2020), The Pastor in a Secular Age: Ministry to People Who No Longer Need God (Baker, 2019), Faith Formation in a Secular Age (Baker, 2017), and Exploding Stars, Dead Dinosaurs, and Zombies: Youth Ministry in the Age of Science (Fortress Press, 2018).
Gina Yeager-Buckley is a youth worker professionally through her work as the Associate for Presbyterian Youth and Triennium for the national offices of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and …by desire and choice as a volunteer Sunday School teacher, youth group leader, youth team member at her church in Louisville, KY. Gina has recently been serving a coach for youth ministry cohorts sponsored by the PYWA and the Presbyterian Mission Agency. This might be her new favorite thing! Gina has directed the Presbyterian Youth Triennium since 1998 and is consistently amazed by what she and the church learns from spending a few days deeply immersed with thousands of incredible and creative young people. Gina lives and works in Louisville, Kentucky. She is married to Andrew. Gina is a fan and an alumni of the University of Texas in Austin. This is also her favorite thing. Gina has lots of favorite things. Movies (especially scary movies!). Swimming. The beach. Her cats Dolly and Porter. The color pink. Music. Laughing really hard with friends.
